The Wind Chime Festival (Furin-ichi in Japanese) is held yearly at Kawasaki Daishi Temple. There are about 30,000 wind chimes among 900 varieties from all over Japan. Each wind-chime is very unique, for example a GOLDEN WIND-CHIMES is completely gold. YOU MUST SEE!!
300,000 people from all over Japan visit this festival during its five day run.
Wind chimes [wind bell], called "Fūrin", are usually hung outside a house to be played by the wind, especially during summer.
People in Japan feel relief from the heat of the summer by listening to the wonderful sounds of wind chimes as well as the wind that create them.
Some hundreds of local people wearing colorful Yukata dancing and walking in a parade from the temple onto Nakamise Street.
Not only for local people, but also visitors from Tokyo area also often come with in Yukata.
You can buy the wind chimes exhibited at the festival.
In addition to wind chimes, there are also many street vendors selling food and toys. It’s a great atmosphere for enjoying a Japanese festival.
From the street in front of Kawasaki Daishi station to Kawasaki Daishi Heigenji Temple, you can find a lot of Kawasaki daishi specialties such as a Daruma Doll used for luck, Kuzumochi (Japanese Sweets), candy, and so on.
